The second part of the trilogy of exhibitions dedicated to Nicole’s centenary revolves around the notion of time, based on a phrase Nicole Florensa herself wrote on a scrap of paper found at the Foundation: “Out of Time.”
Thus, the exhibition space becomes a site of process for a constantly evolving memory. The anchor image that marks the beginning of the exhibition is a photograph from October 1949, featured at the end of the exhibition “Desplaçats: Solidarity and Resilience in a Timeless Loop.” From this image, it is possible to discover several temporal snapshots of Nicole’s life and work, seen through the eyes of others or through her own previously unseen artwork. Each group of elements presented thus constitutes a timeless portal that activates a loop of connections. This is how the present moment (Jetztzeit) theorized by Walter Benjamin emerges: this suspended instant where the past intertwines with the present, taking on an entirely new meaning. The figurative artworks and archival collections are conceptually reinterpreted within this curatorial framework. The perspective we propose transforms the space into a shared memory device, inviting visitors to engage in new exercises of reading and critical analysis. Nekane Aramburu, curator.
